My computer with WindowsXP Home and OfficeXP Standard
crashed. I was planning to buy a notebook anyway, so I did
so. The excellent retailer transferred all my data and it
will be a few days before I get the desktop back. I asked
for my .pst file, which they put on a CD, file name backup.

Their directions for importing it to Outlook, written on
the CD, match what I a finding in Help. But it is not
working. I read the discussion below about regaining
access to My Documents, and read the article. I am the
administrator, and have always been the owner. But I
cannot get permission. Under Properties, there is no
Security Tab. I also copied it to C drive, but still no
access.

Please help. Thank you.

Right click on the pst go to properties and remove the read only
attribute.

Does that help?

Make sure your coping the data off the CD before you try to access it. .pst
file is a file that everytime you open it, it writes to it. Being that its
on a CD you can't write to it.

I hope this helps some

The file on the CD is read only.

The copy, which I put into My Documents for easy locating,
is not read only.

Still having the same problem.

I should also mention that when trying (with every
combination of options from Type of File and Allowing
duplictes)there is no sign of activity and no error
message.
