i am using XP HOME and i am using the administrator accoun
i shared the C:\Documents and Setings\All Users\Documents folder on a local network
But disallowed network users to change files in this folder.
ie. enable read but disable write

Now, The problem is I cannot write to this folder myself unless i enable network users to write! And i cannot even read the content of this folder if i disable sharing on network. Not even i completely unplug this PC from the network.
As if I am not a local user while i am using the admin accoun
There is no problem with the LAN itself. I can read, write, share printer with other PCs on the network as usually.

I think you have a file ownership problem - if so see KB 308421 for a remedy
Unfortunately with XP Home you have to boot in safe mode to get the 'security' tab in the folder's properties in order to give yourself the permissions required
You could try a post in Desktop OS for advice from someone more expert or search there on 'Shared Documents' (I think it was). I had the same problem - the fact that setting network access for write gives a local user full access was something of a red herring.

Sorry, I forgot where I was - the query and more importantly the response was in Win XP Basics Discussion, 5th and 6th March, under 'Can't write to Shared Documents folder
