Is there a MACINTOSH version of ACCESS? And if there isn't are they planning
on creating one soon. Obviously if you buy POWERPC or similar
Windows-enviroment-simulating software then you would be able to install
ACCESS.

I have looked but have not found any. Is there any programs that are similar
that are made for the Macintosh computer?

Thank-you for all your help,

Daniel

There is no MacIntosh version of Access - never was and AFAIK there are no
plans to create one.
(even though you may find occasional stray references to one in the Help
file.)
One option, as you know, is to use a Windows emulator on your Mac.
The database for Windows which seems closest to Access is FileMakerPro.
I've not used it myself, but have heard it's not as full-featured as Access.
Of course FoxPro is also an option.

One final option, if you really want to work with Access -
Windows machines, especially "older" (non-XP) machines are not expensive
these days...

Thank-you for your help, I appriciate it.
I aggree that the best solution to my problem would be to get an old
copmuter running Windows 98, would probably be the best idea. As you
mentioned they are cheap as everyone is upgrading to a new computer rather
than just installing windows XP.

Thank's for your time,

Daniel

Just be aware that the latest version of Access (Access 2003) requires
Windows 2000, SP2 or Windows XP to run.

Since there is no version of Access for Mac, you might like to try
Filemaker. It is easy to use and a very effective database program that
works well with any of the Mac operating systems. I am using Filemaker Pro
with Tiger and it's great. The only problem is that previously I could merge
my Filemaker databases with Word documents and on Tiger it isn't working. I
suspect Microsoft just hasn't caught up yet...

Hi,

There is a new development concerning Microsoft Office for Macintosh and
Microsoft Access.

Actual Technologies has released a single-tier ODBC driver that works
with MS Query (included with Office 2004 and available as a seperate
download from Microsoft's web site for Office v.x).

This driver allows Mac Office to read the tables from Microsoft Access
mdb files. MSQuery is a graphical user interface that lets you build SQL
Queries as you would in MS Access. The current version is read-only.

Although this is not a complete solution to the problem it is
significant because up until now you had to use a 2-tier solution that
involved installing a MacOS ODBC driver and the PC host had to have an
ODBC driver installed and configured.

For many users the ability to get at the Access tables will allow them
to do their work. Excel lists and pivot tables can be created directly
from Access mdb files.

I made a Microsoft Word document that has more details, which you can
download from http://www.agentjim.com/MVP/Excel/Office2004andAccess.doc
