I have Windows XP and when I log in I can access Outlook Express and AOL just fine but when I try to log in to Internet Explore the hour glass comes on for 5 secs than goes off and Explore will not load. I have run a virus scan, eliminated any spyware issues by purchasing and runing an anti spyware product on the computer. It did indicate 125 occurances but all were deleted and it still will not run. I also ran msconfig to disable all the start up programs but still will not work. I also have noticed I can not log into my control panel. Any suggestions?

Hi Marshall,

I have Windows XP and when I log in I can access Outlook Express and AOL just fine but when I try to log in to Internet Explore the hour glass comes on for 5 secs than goes off and Explore will not load. I have run a virus scan, eliminated any spyware issues by purchasing and runing an anti spyware product on the computer. It did indicate 125 occurances but all were deleted and it still will not run. I also ran msconfig to disable all the start up programs but still will not work. I also have noticed I can not log into my control panel. Any suggestions?

Try this:
Boot in safe mode (F8) and go to Control Panel > Internet Options >
Advanced options tab. check 'Disable third-party browser extensions,'
so that no unknown extensions get loaded with IE. Then boot in normal
mode and see if the problem reccurs.

Good luck

Roger's suggestion is very useful and will allow you to use IE. You will need to restart the computer in SafeMode to access the Control panel. To access the net, reboot in normal mode after changing the 3rd party access. But to get rid of the offending program, I suggest getting Adaware -- http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ -- and Spybot Search and Destroy (Sorry but I don't have their URL). You may also want to use Pandasoftware's free internet Virus check - http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.ht

These are the products I used to get the problem off of my brother's computer. Be careful using Adaware and Spybot since some of the "Objetcs" highlighted may be good. But get rid of any "Malware". Spybot lets you get a description of the object to help you decide if you need it or not

If in doubt, keep the item and see if the ones you removed fix the problem
