Access Denied

I have reformatted and reinstalled XP Pro on my C:
partition. My datafiles were stored on the D: partition
and were not shared amongst the users of the PC.

I have tried the normal procedure from the manual, i.e. I
have disabled simple filesharing, logged in as
administrator, gone the the data folders, and added a new
user to the share permissions for the folders. However,
when I press the apply button I get the message "An error
occured while trying to share xxxxx. Access Denied".

Is there another procedure I can apply to "open" my data?
