I have installed a new hard drive C: I kept my old hard drive and it is D: On C: there is a fresh new OS install. All is smooth and solid. On D: there is precious data i wish to copy to C: However, when I attempt to access My Documents within my user profile on D: a dialogue box appears: Access is denied. I ponder. There is no password setting for my old profile on D: Administrator, User Default, All Users and the sort are accessible, except for the user profile header that was mine. There are gigabytes worth of data under that folder that I can not afford to lose. Please help me. I suspect that there is an issue with the ntuser.dat file and there is a "read only" attribute that I noticed. The OS install on D: is non-functional but should not have any bearing on this issue, for the raw files I need are still on the drive.

Hi

See if the following helps:

"How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP"

your problem that you set you document folder to private that mean unless you
are logged in to that account will not be able to do any this if you put your
mouse over the folder it will show you it is empty
good luck try if some data recovery program will help
