access denied to email attachments deemed 'unsafe'

For the past month I have been denied access in
Outlook to every single file attached to an incoming
email message, on grounds that the file was
considered 'unsafe'. This is a late development after
using Outlook 97 for about 5 years without incident.

I can only assume that the change was instituted by
an MS security update that I blindly downloaded about a
month ago. If there was any accompanying help file, I
missed it.

Surely, a user ought to have the right to turn off this
gratuitous blockage, or to retrieve files that have
already been blocked. But how to do that? Any guidance
would be most appreciated.

what version of Outlook? Beginning with Outlook 2000 SP1+, some potentially
dangerous file types are blocked. See
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup/getexe.htm for ways to get the
attachments off. For more information on the security features, see
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup.htm. Attachment options,
www.slovaktech.com, will unblock attachments for you.

Weston, sounds like you may be using Outlook Express
2003. I use Outlook 2003 and did not have this problem,
but my wife is using "Express" and had the problem. If
you're using "Express", go to Tools, Options, Security,
and then un-check the description about not opening
attachments. It worked for my wife.

How do you look Office 2003 after using '97? I'm having
alot of trouble with 2003, which is why I'm browsing this
newsgroup.
