I am running XP Home and found that when Adobe Acrobat is
distributing to my computer through Novell, it fails. It
seems this is because it is trying to write files to the
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents folder.
This should not be a problem, except that my folder is
somehow Read-Only. What's worse, I cannot change the
attributes or even see the contents of this folder, even
though I am the administrator on this computer. How can
I reset the attributes for the All Users folder (the
whole thing is Read-Only) and allow access to the
Documents folder within it?

It's not the read-only mark.
XP just marks all folders read-only by default, BUT, the folders are not
read-only and
should work as normal. Just ignore the read-only mark. If you have a piece
of software that is having probs writing to a folder then try to get an xp
complatable version of the program. Most likely if it is a well written app
then is it not the read-only check box, more likely a permissions setting.

Here is some info on it:

XP makes folders read-only by design. In XP the read only attribute
is only used by explorer to see if the folder is a special or a system
folder. Read up on it:

Make sure the my docs folder is not set to a private folder, in it's
properties.
