Access denied on network folders

I am trying to access all files on a networked computer, both systems running Win XP. The networked computer has share allowed at the C drive level, but am unable to access certain system folders such as Windows and Program Files. My backup program skips these folders also and will not save them to tape.

This is normal. The Windows and Program Files folders are protected when Simple File Sharing is in use.

For XP Pro: In Windows Explorer go to Tools, Folder Options, View. Scroll down and uncheck Use Simple File Sharing.

For XP Home: Boot the computer in Safe Mode and log in on the built in Administrator account.

Now when you choose Properties for a drive or folder, you'll see the full Sharing and Security tab. However, this may not allow you to bypass the built in restrictions in XP Home.
