Access Denied Message

I am attempting to set up a home network (using a linksys wireless router) between my laptop and my desktop. The laptop runs windows xp (home) and the desktop runs windows xp (professional). I have been able to add both computers to the same workgroup. The problem is that I am unable to access folders or printers on the desktop computer from the laptop. On the other hand, I can access folders or printers on the laptop from the desktop

When I attempt to access the desktop from the laptop I get an access denied message. I have already disabled the firewall setting

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

This article describes how to take ownership of a file or folder
to which you have been denied access:

Carey,

Thanks for you quick response. I am not sure if you answer will work. To clarify, I am unable to even view any of the folders or printers that are on the desktop pc from the laptop. I can view all the computers in my workgroup (the desktop and the laptop). When I click on the desktop computer icon (from the laptop computer), I get the access denied message. Will the solution you suggested work for this as well?

thanks,
Seth

i have had this problem? make sure that there is a user account on the pc that you are trying to access and vice versa. that sould work. and also make sure that the files are shared and have the proper permissions set

I am logged into both machines as myself. I checked the spelling and that is not the issue. Any other suggestions?

I figured out the problem. It was with my mcaffee. Altough I shut off the firewall, it was still blocking ip addresses.

thanks anyway.
