Access denied files

After having my pc upgraded to XP Home, I tried to create
shortcuts to progs and files on my desktop in the same way
as in windows 98 - ie: click on file, select shortcut;
shortcut appears in file/prog list with (2) after it; drag
it from list to desktop - job done.

However, I find now I have a desktop with 10 or so
unworkable shortcuts, can't delete - "Access denied",
can't rename, can't clean desktop.

I understand this is a security safeguard, but these are
MY files and I am the Administrator. How can I delete
these faulty shortcuts. I realise now, that the method
required to place shortcuts is different in XP.

Advice welcome

This article describes how to take ownership of a file or folder
(non-encrypted) to which you have been denied access:

1) In explorer:
Tools-> Foler Options-> View-> Then untick enable simple
file sharing box (down the bottom) if it isn't already
unticked.

2) Right click on the folder that contains the files.
Then Properties-> Security TAB -> Then Add Administrator
with full control.

3) Then click advanced button, and tick replace on all
child objects. Apply OK

Try again deleting.

If this doesn't work then:
In the security TAB in step 2, take ownership of the
folder from the TABs in the Advanced section, and then
repeat steps 2 & 3.

This should enable you to delete the files.

Could be alot of trial and error until you get it. But
this will work once you have played with it.

Cheers,
Steve
