I have Win XP Pro SP2.

Yesterday I tried to make a change to Services in the MSCONFIG utility.
When I clicked to exit the utility I got a dialog box titled System
Configuration with the following message:

"An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service.

You may need to log on using an Administrator account to make the specified
changes."

I only have 2 accounts. One is Guest. The other is My Account which is an
Administrator account.

Do not do anything with Services in msconfig. You can render your machine
unbootable.

Use Services.msc.

Start | Run | Type: services.msc | OK

Log in with the classic mode ( Disable welcome screen ), and Log in with the
original administrator account of windows xp. You can set (active/change p/w)
Administrator account by going into Computer management.
then try to make changes through msconfig.

[[The reason is because with msconfig and Hardware Profiles, you can disable
services that may be vital to boot your system. With the management console
(services.msc) you cannot. Also, msconfig, while unchecking the box, is
disabling the service.

The "Disable All" button also scares me. It should not even be there as no
reason exists to justify disabling "everything."]]
Why can't I use msconfig to change my services?

Thanks

I will take your advice and not try to change services in MSCONFIG.

A Canon tech rep was talking me though uninstalling Canon's Multipass
software when this occured. He seemed to be very knowledgeable.

But does this mean that my account is not the "REAL" administrator account?
