I used the backup tool to restore some files and folders from my old computer
to my new one (both use Windows XP SP2). My username on the older comupter
was password protected and when I tried to open the files on the new on I
couldn't. I decided to delete them because the consume a lot of disk space
and I couldn't do this either. I got all the time the messege "Cannot delete:
Access is denied" and below it written "Make sure the disk is not full or
write-protected and that the file is not currently in use".

I would appreciete it greatly if anyone could tell me how to open or get rid
of this files.

Oh i had the same problem, these files become stacked and are due to long
paths, use the tool available at http:// path too deep. com

A site whose domain registrant HIDES behind a private registration.
it is a tool

It is NOT freeware. Cost is $18 for a single personal (non-business)
license. See http://www.pathtoodeep.com/Order.html. The "free"
downloads are, ahem, evaluation versions. See the "How can I obtain"
question at http://www.pathtoodeep.com/Faq.html. Then visit their
download page which says (emphasis added):

Download a fully functional version of PATH TOO DEEP Fixer 3.8 and
enjoy your free /*trial*/.

So this reply to an ancient and dead thread is SPAM trying to sucker
someone into buying this payware.
which deletes and also searches such undeleteable files
and also assists in installation and sharing of long pathed files

You really thought Rutenberg was still monitoring this discussion after
*FIVE YEARS*? Next time notice the datestamps. They're valid even in
India.

From headers: X-poster: PEAR::Net_NNTP
Maybe you're just running your PHP script for PEAR Net_NNTP
(http://pear.php.net/package/Net_NNTP) to spam your site. Well, fix its
date checking range code, or better yet is to *STOP SPAMMING*.

Dee dah deeeeee.
Thayr's yer sign.
