Access denied error on folders on NTFS Drive

I am running Windows XP PRO. I have a second drive (120 gig) that is
formatted using NTFS. (My first drive is formatted using Fat 32.) Using
Windows Explorer I created a folder on the NTFS drive and dragged
several folders (located on the NTFS drive) from root to this folder. I
am now getting a error message stating - "name of folder" is not
accessible, Access is denied - when I try to view these folders.
Anybody know how I can gain access to these folders and why this
happened? I have no problem when I copy a file.

Thanks
Tim

Its sounds like the permissions are screwed up. You have the rights to create but not to
view. Have you tried taking ownership of this folder ?

I am the only user/admin on the machine. Can you explain how to
check/take the ownership?
Tim

Right click on the folder --> properties --> security --> advanced --> owner

Check the box for - "Replace owner on..."

When I goto the properties there is no security tab.

If this is XP PRO, go to Folder Options - View and uncheck 'Use Simple
File sharing'. That is not available in a normal boot of XP Home, but
you can boot to Safe Mode (F8 key menu) and have the security tab
available

Thanks for your help. Once I got the security tab I discovered the owner
was everyone but there was no group or usernames assigned. Once I
assigned the system and my profile I had full access to the directory
and files.
Alex yes it is XP Pro.

Is there a way to change the owner back to everyone once you change to
admin or a user profile?

Thanks
Tim

There is no reason to. Keep ownership, assign access rights to everyone.

I had to reload my Windows XP Pro, I copied My Documents folder to a 2nd
drive. All of the file names appear in Green text and it says I have no
access rights to them. I have went in and took ownership but no luck.

Any idea as to how I can remove the secutity?

"Green" file names indicate file encryption. Did you encrypt any of
your documents or folders? If so, did you save or do you have a copy
of the encryption certificate? If you still have access to the
original My Documents folder on the drive you copied them from, you
may want to decrypt first before copying them to the 2nd drive.

Yes, I've taken ownership, but it still denies me access rights.

You didn't answer the question about encryption. You apparently have
encrypted those files. Here are links to help you with encryption:
