I posted this question on another site, I got a real dumb answer. didn't
tell me anything.

I going to try this again here.

is access 2003 'compatible' with AC2000. will it convert a AC2000 into
2003 correctly ???
simple question, right?

Access 2003 (and Access 2002, for that matter) uses the Access 2000 file
format as its default. While there is a separate Access 2002/2003 file
format, you can simply open a database built using Access 2000 without
having to do any conversion, and you'll be able to run it without any
problems (assuming that it worked under Access 2000, of course <g>). You
won't get any prompting to convert, like you would if you opened a database
built using Access 97.

You can, should you wish, convert to the new format under Tools | Database
Utilities | Convert Database

Ok, simple answer then...

Yes. And Yes.

Thank you for your helpful information. Very kind.

The reason why I had to ask, I tried to open a 2003 mdb in AC2000 and I got
the error msg:
The database is in an unrecognized format. etc..........

as far as I know, the mdb did have errors, it did not work correctly. maybe
that's why I can't pen it.
but it did open in AC 2003.
but I am also thinking, maybe it was a shortcut on the workstation.

in any case, thank you again.

If the file is in 2000 format then it can be opened with 2000, 2002, or 2003.
If it is 2002/2003 format then 2000 cannot open it.

That was NOT what you asked. You asked, and I quote:

is access 2003 'compatible' with AC2000. will it convert a AC2000
into
2003 correctly ???

This reads to me that you're trying to open an A2000 database using
A2003. Now it seems that you want to open a database created in A2003
using A2000. That is a different question.

As Duane says, "maybe". The 2003 user could have saved the database in
either A2000 format (which A2000 CAN read) or in A2002/3 format (which
it cannot).
