Hello...
I don't think this is possible but I figure I can give it a shot.
I know that access is a good DB for inventory control and basic financial
data (assuming the design is right)... But is it possible to integrate access
with a retail Point-of-Sale system (or even used as POS SOftware) so that
daily totals do not have to be manually imported?

These guys seem to think it is possible ...

The spammers and script-kiddies have succeeded in making it impossible for
me to use a real e-mail address in public newsgroups. E-mail replies to
this post will be deleted without being read. Any e-mail claiming to be
from brenreyn at indigo dot ie that is not digitally signed by me with a
GlobalSign digital certificate is a forgery and should be deleted without
being read. Follow-up questions should in general be posted to the
newsgroup, but if you have a good reason to send me e-mail, you'll find
a useable e-mail address at the URL above.

Yes, it is possible. I have a POS application that connects to a tax
printer, sends data to credit cards (using a modem), receives the
confirmation TXT file and prints the receipt.

Yes, it is certainly possible.

We use a POS system called Micro$ale for one of
our restaurant locations. It writes all of the information
to Access (Jet) tables. We have been using the system
for over four years with great success.

Excellent... Thanks for links, gentlemen...

Once I get to more significant point in set-up.. I'm sure I'll have more
questions.

I read another post of yours concerning a similiar topic. (I believe you own
the restaruant, right?). I think once I'm in more of a position to get the
DB's set up I might need a little more help with the actual integration of
everything.

No, I do not own the restaurant.
I'm just the one who does all the work!
;-)

The people I work for used to own many restaurants;
now they only have a couple left. I am at one of the locations
one or two days a week to make sure all the paperwork is
being completed and check on things. The rest of the time
I am at the office. I used to manage a few of their locations
before being brought to the office to oversee the installation
of a large database application at all of our locations.

The POS system I mentioned was written in a different language,
but stores the information in Jet tables, so there is no way for me
to see how the application operates. I have, however, peaked around
the table structures to see how things are tied together. My Access
experience has definitely helped on the rare occasions we have come
across a problem with the program.

If you come across specific issues feel free to post questions in the NG.
I'm sure many, many people could help and/or provide some guidance.
I personally have been working on an Access application that handles
a lot of back-of-the-house food service management tasks on the side.
I'm really quite proud of it.

Not exactly what you are looking for but there are several POS systems
on this page.

Also, with all due respect <smile> Access can also be used to track
very complex financial data.

One client is running a system with 150 tables, 450 forms and 350
reports.
