Access 97 vs XP (2002)

I run an Access 97 program which I developed and I have
no problems. I convert it to XP Version 2002 and import
about 370,000 records. The size of the database will
grow to 2,097,152 mg and the database will destroy
(corrupt)itself.

Record pull is a two step process. If I compact after
step 1, I can complete step 2 without a crash but it
still grows exponentially! What is happening?

Thanks

Ross

Ow!

There are quite a few reasons for database bloating. How big is the
file in A97? AXP uses an international character set which takes
roughly twice as much space per character as A97, so the database will
grow - but it should't double. And how big is it after you've done
both import phases and compacted?

If you're storing graphical images see
http://www.mvps.org/access/forms/frm0044.htm
for some anti-bloat suggestions.
