Access 97 and not using NetBIOS

Our Network department is looking to eliminate the user of Named Pipes on
our network. I need to know how this will affect Access 97 applications
where there is an Access 97 front end and an Access 97 backend. Since
NetBIOS will no longer be allowed on either the client or the server, it
would seem these applications would not continue to function. If this is
the case, is there a way around it?

Thanks for any advice or guidance.

You need 'File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft
Networks' on the server (or equivalent), and
'Client for Microsoft Networks' (or equivalent) on
your PC.

If you have that, you have all you need. If you don't have that, it won't
work.

Probably, your network department only wants to
eliminate explicit use of named pipes and NetBios.
Possibly, they don't even realise that File Sharing
needs a MS File Share protocol, even if it isn't
listed in the installed protocol box.

If they really do want to get rid of their file
server, the way to work around it is to create
a Virtual Private Network to run on top of their
Network. You will have to find a PC to put the
data on if they won't let you use a file share
on their network servers.

MS 'File Sharing' will run over TCP/IP
