I had 2003(?) on my laptop and was able to attach bitmap pictures to records
in the tables. Out of curiosity I did the mistake to open Picture Manager(?)
to see what it would offer. It set itself as default program for pictures and
I was doomed. If I try to insert a new picture into a record in my table, it
shows as "Package". And it won't allow to convert to bitmap. The only way I
can get the pictures into the record is to add a new one, open it, paste the
picture into it and safe it/update the table. There has to be an easier way
to do this.
This data base is extremely important to the work I do for the animal
shelter and it would take me weeks to replace it and hours to use other
programs to make up for it. Does anybody have any ideas!?

You can change the default program to open your files by opening Explorer.
Click on Tools >>> Folder Options, Then click on the File Types tab, find
the extension, select it and click on the Change button. Pick your program.

I did that when I worked myself through the help menu and the support
website. But if I insert bitmaps into records in the table (using the Ole
Object option), they still show as Packages. I found something on one of the
support websites that mentioned that this was a known issue and to re-install
an old Office program called Photo ???. But my laptop was redone in a
computer store and I don't have a disk for what is on it now.

You do not need MS Photo Editor as your OLE Server for Bitmap images. I will
explain below how to ensure that MS Paint is registered as the OLE Image
Server for Bitmap images. I would like to point out though, that with A2007
it is better to use the new Attachment field type to insert Images as no OLE
Server application is required. I do not have A2007 installed so you will
have to look in the Help files for assistance.

I have seen cases in the NG's where MS Paint was the app
registered for BMP files but NOT as the OLE Server for BMP files.
Here is a thread on this topic. WHile it refers to MS Office Photo Editor
the logic is what you need to follow for MS Paint. Watch our for NG
linewrapping!

It sounded like it makes sense, but I hate to say that I understood only
about half of it! I work a lot with Office and other basic home use/work use
things, but this is way above my knowledge.

Any way you can make this >Idiot proof<!?

I'm sorry but the thread contains step by step instructions. I simply do not
know what else to tell you.
