Access 2003 Mail Merge problem

Hi

As part of a function routine, I run an Access query, Open Word and perform
a Mail merge with the records selected in the query.

This has worked perfectly for months using Access 2000 and Access XP. We
have now updated some machines to Access 2003, and the procedure has stopped
working. Having loaded Word and displayed the letter (with the data), the
merge to Printer button is not lit.

The odd thing is that if I go to Word 2003 directly and open the mail merge
letter, the data is found and the merge to printer button is lit. (the
problem with doing it this way is that the rest of my function routine is
not completed and the records are not updated)

Can anyone tell me why the function is not working in Access 2003
