Access 2002 always crashes on new or open.

Whenever I try to create a new database or open the sample database, about 5
seconds later I get the incredibly unhelpful error message: "Microsoft
Access has encounted a problem and needs to close." A checkbox is provided
to repair the database (repair a new empty database?) and restart Access.
If I leave it checked, Access restarts and crashes again 5 seconds after
opening the database. I have SP3 installed, and all the available Office
patches. I've also got Windows XP Pro SP2 installed, and all available
Windows patches.

The Event log lists 2 error message, "Fault bucket 91377316." and "Faulting
application msaccess.exe, version 10.0.6501.0, faulting module msaccess.exe,
version 10.0.6501.0, fault address 0x000a0338."

I've tried Googling with no success, and I've tried searching the MS KB.
The only article that comes close, 873266, has the right error message and
the right symptoms, but the solution doesn't apply in my case.

I've tried doing the Detect and Repair thing, but that didn't help any
either. Anyone have any ideas, before I have to wipe the hard drive and
reinstall everything?

I'd try uninstalling MS Access and reinstalling it from scratch before blowing away your whole hard drive...
