Hi:

I have Access 2000 installed on an XP system, but there are some features (EG HTML
Translation) that were dropped, but existed in access 97-98. Is it possible to install
Access 97 (which I have in the Officer 97 package) on a system which already has Access
2000 on it, so that i can enjoy some of the features that the bagged when they issues
2000?

My concern is that i don't want to screw up my Access 2000 operation, which is a
production process.

Best

You can install both, but they should be in order. I would therefore
uninstall Office 2000, reinstall Access 97 with all Service Packs (SR1 and
SR2), then reinstall Office 2000 with all Service Packs. I have 4 different
versions of Access installed on 1 machine without problems.

Access 97 has a silent registering "feature" which will make it the
registered product every time it's run. To disable that, between installs,
make sure that Access 97 is running properly with both Service Packs before
installing Office 2K, then locate a file named msaccess.srg which will be in
the same folder as the executables. Rename it to msaccesssrg.OLD. Then
install Office 2000 in a new (different) folder.

A trick I use is to put a shortcut to each version of the Access executable
in the SendTo folder. Then I can right-click any Access file and "send it
to" the version I'd like to open it with.

hi,
yes, you can. i have both 97 and 2k on my machine at work.
but there is an odd inconvience. 2k always ends up as
default. if you open a 97 db from an icon 2k will open the
db and ask to convert. a 97 db usually has to be opened
from inside 97. if you don't use 2k, 97 will remain the
default and you can open from an icon.

Hi:

I tried what you suggested and am now totally out of business with Access!

97 installed and then came back saying that HTMLMARQ.OCX could not register itself, and
somehow both of them cannot find the Visual Basic DLL library VBA332, so neither version
will work! Further, the 2000 install disc wont start up.

I have rebooted and done all that to no avail!.

In addition, I cannot uninstall the 97 version since somehow the uninstall component has
been lost!

Can you suggest how I can get out of this mess?

Thanks

ACCVER - Allows you to work with multiple versions of MS Access
databases. Detects the version of Access used to create your MDB, MDE
or MDA files and either reports the version number or starts the
appropriate version of MS Access. http://www.aylott.com.au/accver.htm

Highly recommended. I use it all the time.

Sounds like a big mess. Let's see if we can clean it up. First, we'll need
to be sure that 97 works before even trying to install 2000. Also, under no
circumstances can you install them both in the same directory. They must be
totally separate.

Uninstall Office 2000 and try and find the file offcln9.exe on the CD. Run
that file. If you cannot find that file, go to Microsoft's site and download
and run:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/office2000pro/update/3.1/win98me/en-us/eraser2k.exe

and

http://download.microsoft.com/download/office2000pro/utility/3.1/win98me/en-us/erasecd2.exe

Remove Access97 using the Control Panel ... Add/Remove Programs utility.

Then use:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;176823

to finish cleaning the files. Now reinstall Access 97 with Service Packs and
do not go any further until you are totally satisfied that the 97 install
works perfectly. Open 97 sample files and work with them for an hour or 2 to
be sure. Once you are sure, try reinstalling Office 2000. Make sure you
install into a different directory, or you'll wind up in the sample
predicament.
