Hello everybod

My anti- virus has detected a virus in a file but is unable to heal it or delete it so I tried to delete the file manually and acces has been denied to me to that folder
The file is located in c:\system volume information\_restore{.....bunch of number here!.........} \rp147\ A0006929.ex

I have administrator priviledges on the computer

Thanks for any information.

Presumably that is a restore point....

Hi

You will need to stop/start System Restore - this will also delete all existing checkpoints:

Right click on My Computer, select Properties and then the System Restore tab. Enable 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' and click Apply>OK. Then reboot your PC. After that first reboot go back into System Restore, disable 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' and click Apply>OK. Then reboot your PC again. After this second reboot the virus would have been deleted and you will have a newly created checkpoint.

Hi

Who is the owner of that file? I bet that the virus took ownership. Take ownership of the file and you can delete it.

Hi

Files in that folder shouldn't be individually deleted. They are System Restore files and if deleted, SR will not run properly. Turning SR off and then on again to delete the virus can be performed My Computer.

Yes, you should be clear of viruses in System Restore now.

| Thanks for the help....I've deleted all the checkpoints. I hope I'm rid of the virus now.

This may be helpful but be very careful. Go to "run" on
your start menu and type in "regedit". This will take you
to your Registry Editor. Click once on "My Computer" just
to highlight it and do a search(edit/find) for that
specific file name. Make sure that it is the correct file
name. Once it is found you should be able to delete it
from there. Highlight/left click/delete.
