accented latin characters in Mac Word???

Hi, I need to type a text in Romanian for a translation, and I need these
characters (ă, î, ș, ț etc.) that my laptop does support, but when I want to
insert them in my Word for mac (v.X), it tells me "The current application
does not support this Unicode-only character"!!!

Please help!!
 
I'm having the same problem w/Latin Extended-A. I get the same message "does
not support this Unicode only character). Have you found a solution??
