About the All Programs menu to different users

Hello. How do you set up Windows XP Pro so that each user accounts of the
computer can have different items in the All Programs menu?

That is greatly dependent upon the way the software you are installing is
written. Some programs allow you to choose whether you want to install to
all users or only to the account that you are signed into. Some default to
one or the other and you cant change the option.

Sometimes you can just copy the appropriate shortcut from your personal
account into the all user account and the program will be fully functional.
Other times you will have to install the program again (to the same location
please) under each account!

Each users Start Menu is composed of shortcuts taken from two
locations:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Start Menu

To edit this list you would need to do the following:

Open the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu folder.

Open all the USERNAME\Start Menu folders,C:\Documents and
Settings\USERNAME\Start Menu

In the All Users\Start Menu folder, copy the shortcuts you only
want available for a user and paste them into the USERNAME\Start
Menu folder. Keep in mind that you can organize the contents of
the Programs folder however you want for each user.

Do this for each user account.

Once you've completed the procedure, delete the shortcuts from
the All Users\Start Menu folder that you don't want all accounts
to see.

When you install new programs, you're probably going to have to
go through this procedure again and place the shortcuts in the
appropriate user's Start Menu.
