Abnormal problem

Hi,
I have a brand new machine with XP Pro full install with all the upgrades.
Encountered a weird problem a few minutes ago while using OE6.
While replying to a post in another newsgroup I noticed I had made a
spelling error further up in the post.
So I cursored up to the error and Backspaced the word out and proceeded to
retype the mispelled word correctly.
It spelled the new word correctly, but each time I typed a new letter the
first letter of the next word disappeared.
Anybody know what caused this?
