My PC currently runs a 17" CRT monitor. A friend gave me his "old" 17" LCD monitor which worked when we disconnected it from his PC. However... when I plug it into my PC it starts up and displays windows startup OK then just goes blank/black. I assume drivers are required, and have downloaded the appropriate ones from the manufacturer but windows does'nt recognise them or wont let me install them. how do i get around this???

Reboot into VGA mode and then set your display's resolution,
number of colors, and refresh rate to those recommended by the
monitor's manufacturer.
