I've noticed my system suddenly slowing down, and have tracked the issue (I
think) to windows Explorer. First, I have scanned for viruses, spy ware,
etc. and system seems clean.

However, using the TASK Manager, I'll see Explorer suddenly jump to take
90%+ of the CPU, then fall back to 0 then back to 95%, etc. I've noticed
this happening when I have accessed a network drive -- even just to look at
file directories, wkthou accessing a file. If I close Explorer, all seems
well.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Possibly you have a network share mapped that's currently not available?
Explorer is trying to connect to it but can't and thus the CPU usage.

Dear Fuzzy,

This hit the mark! Explorer still pops up -- but for very shot durations now
that I removed the obsolete mappings. Thanks! ./Randy
