I've heard that there is a U.S. version of XP pro, and a non U.S. version of
XP pro, is this true?

I've got some computers that have XP Pro on them, and they'll be shipped
over to France.

Any issues, and were do I find more info about this?

Thanks
Jason

I gather there's a LONG list of non US versions. Mostly to provide user
prompts in other languages, different currency display formats,
different date display formats and to and allow easier typing of
characters that are seldom used in the US. Use of the US versions in
France might make typing those vowels with marks over them less
convenient than would be with a French version of the OS. Might make the
day and month of dates in what would normally be considered reverse
order (12/31/06 instead of 31/12/06) too.

Probably a long list of non US versions for the Office applications too.

There are versions for different languages, but not a US version per se.
There is a version that has WMP stripped out and available for sale in the
EU, I believe.

WMP stripped out version as a result of inane EU competition rules, last I
heard none had been sold, and thats if you can source such a version

If by that, you mean that there are *two* versions, no it's not true.

There are *many* versions, one for each of the major languages in the world.

The issue is that people need to have a version that's in a language they
understand.

Actually some were sold, not many though. Chrysler sold more Dodge
Vipers last year than copies of Windows XP N edition were bought.
Perhaps collectors bought them.

There is a N version of Windows XP for Europe which is basically the same as the US version minus the WMP which was agreed upon during the fiasco between MS and the EU.
