I am running XP home/media center. My wife and I use the
computer. I want us to be able to be totally seperate
entities. I see what see installs and vice versa. this
edition has no work arounds since it only has admin and
user. I have another hard drive on the same ide channel
set as slave. I am trying to copy over the c drive and
use a boot manager to select the user. All copy progams
dont make the drive bootable. Works if i install XP pro
on the second (d) drive but can't copy over the programs
from media center. Am I spinning my wheels? Is it
possible to have 2 of the same exact operating
systems/files on the same ide channel or even the same
computer?
Many hours and sleepless nites fighting this. I suspect a
true expert might have the solution. Thanks

So.. You don't want to make two users in Windows XP (Home or Pro) because?

HOW TO: Create and Configure User Accounts in Windows XP

Managing Users Accounts in Windows XP Professional

As stated............. when my wife installs incredimail
I am constantly nagged by her email genie, or when her
little merlin pops up constantly calling me her name as
he gives his little quips. i just want to seperate the
users completly.

But you still haven't answered our question to you....Are you using 2
different user accounts? This is all you need to do to separate each user's
settings (profiles) and installed software.

If you are logged on as an Administrator and install software, it will
become available to all users of the machine. But each user will get his/her
own installation that is separate from the other user. For example if MS
Word is installed on a machine with 3 user accounts but installed by an
Administrator, each user will have MS Word, BUT each user can configure Word
in their own way.

Also, an Administrator can also just remove shortcuts on a start menu so
that other users won't even see the software.

The bottom line is that adding additional user accounts IS the way to
totally separate one user from another.

And again................. So I set her account as a
power user and she is not allowed to install her "
Microsoft agent ( Merlin ) because she doesn't have
administrater privledges. So0 if I enable that then it
will run regardless of who is logged on.

Unless this "Merlin" is a "All Users" setting (doubtful), then making her an
admin should not affect everyone.
