An excellent program, which I've used for years, and although I've not yet
tried to remove buttons***, this was added in v3.0 (see
http://www.metaeureka.com/changes.shtml ).

A new version (v3.01 was issued 14th December 2005).

After writing the above I had a look to see how to remove unwanted items. Go
to Files > Settings > Toolbar, then uncheck the items you do not want.
Thanks for bringing this utility to my attention! This is one of those
programs where you keep finding new bits.
