A Simple Way to Save a Place in a Word Document

I read some very long documents, usually without making any edits. I'd like
to find a simple way to get the docs to open to the page where I left off
reading.
I've tried Bookmarks, but find them troublesome, since each has to be
deleted and redone at the end of each session.
I've heard rumors of a way to make a doc open to a certain page
automatically but have been unable to find it in Help. Is there such a
process?

G'Day JD,

Persist with a single Bookmark.

Give it a name like '_AAA', to keep it at the
top of the Bookmark list.

You do NOT have to delete it (until you have
utterly finished with it), simply select some text
and Insert>Bookmark>Enter.

Since you have carried out an edit, use SHIFT+F5
to go to THAT EDIT (when you re-open the document).

If there is a TOC, try also View>Document Map.

My thoughts exactly, apart from the suggested bookmark name.

You can't assign a bookmark name that begins with underscore using the
Bookmarks dialog. (You can do it using VBA.) Underscores are used for hidden
bookmarks: shown in the list only if 'hidden bookmarks' is checked; but even
then, you still can't add new ones through the dialog.

If you have done any editing at the page where you left off reading,
Shift+F5 will take you to it.

Thanks to all who responded. I think the simplest solution is to use Shift +
F5. I can just hit the space bar (creating an "edit") before closing.

Touché Jezebel,

While there may well be dwarves in heaven at com.kr, you seem
to be MUCH closer than that!

Canberra???

Yep, Canberra it is. I earn my living cleaning George Bush's faeces from
