Hi
I am running win2k/service pack 4 on a pIII for 4 years now, no major
problems.
These days I face a problem and would appreciate any help: When I try to
open the control panel then I got a message that explorer.exe has
generated errors etc and an error log is created. The problem will
insist regardless any step I took (reinstalled sp4, checked for viruses
with up to date nav, checked disk, defraged disk etc.) I know that you
will ask "and what the error
log says?" but -sorry, I don't know where to look for it.

So is there any suggestion? The problems occurs only when I try to
access control panel, in no other case.

Thanks in advance
Nikos

I have the same problem at work on a P3, 1 GIG ECC RAM (good quality
stuff), Asus mobo, with onboard SIS video and a new WD HDD. I have
minimal software and the problem persists. You are only the second
person I've ssn have this problem, what is your hardware?

Assus board as well (cuv4x, bit older of course)
The problem emerged a week ago and persists, something is off balance,
but what?

First, does the problem happen in safe mode? If not, could be a driver
issue.

If the problem still happens in safe mode, you may have a corrupt Control
Panel Applet. Most programs that install an item into the Control Panel do
it via a CPL file in the c:\windows\system32 folder. Try renaming a few of
the *.cpl (to *.cpl.old) in that folder to see if you can find a culprit. If
its a windows cpl, you may be able to extract the original off your cd. If
its a 3rd party one, reinstall the application that put it there.

Good Luck. . .
