Where is a site where I can find out more of system recovery besides hp
website?

One concern I have is what is meant by "Recovery". Microsoft has a
procedure for performing and Advanced System Recovery and the Windows XP CD
also offers access to the Recovery Console. However, the Recovery offered
by HP is probably a complete re-imaging of the hard drive in the event of a
catostrophic failure.

They are two completely different types of "recovery". The Microsoft
recovery methods can be used to restore or repair and existing installation.
The HP recovery will (most likely) completely wipe-out the existing
installation and replace it with the factory default installation stored on
a hidden partition of your hard drive.
