I installed and registered the MS Office 2002 suite on a couple of computers and now can not remember which software package (both are legal copies) is actually installed on which computer I built.. and I want to be sure I know which it is since I need to hand one over the new one to a new user in the family who'll get this PC..

How can I make sure I give him the correct s/w since the Product Key on the s/w packaging does not match the Product ID I see under Help About and i can no longer remember which of the two is in which machine? or perhaps it makes no difference, does it? .. Regards, JimS

perhaps the FBI can help

Download AIDA32. You can retrieve the product keys for the installed
components. (XP,Office, etc.)

Don't forget to download AIDA32 Enterprise Edition, since the Personal
Edition won't display the Office Product Key.

First - you want the numbers relating to Office, not to Windows.

The Product ID is a pure number derived from the 25 character Key during
setup of Office. You will find the ID in Word's Help - About Word, and
that is the one needed in its Help - Activate Product.

The Product Key needed for an installation can be found if you get the
free Aida 32, enterprise edition from
http://www.aida32.hu/aida-download.php?bit=32
which is an excellent general System Info tool, and its Software -
Licenses page will tell you the one used for Office as well as that for
Windows and ones for some other items.

Note that if the machine came with Windows XP installed, this will
probably give a key for that used in producing an original image, then
cloned to all machines they make. So it is not the one for a reinstall
of windows . But then the key will be on a label on the case of the
machine

And why woudl the FBI want to help with a LEGITIMATE transfer of the
software? AS the OP stated, he is giving the entire PC, along with the
software and the original media. He just wants to be able to insure
that he gives them the product key that he used when he originally
installed the product instead of the one he has installed on his other
machine that he plans to keep.

Greetings --

You should be able to use AIDA32 Enterprise from
http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php to find the Product Keys installed on
each PC.

The guy is an idiot. He has nothing of value to add to this group.
Ignore him or filter him out. Notice his other two posts - both
useless just like him.

Even if I am an idiot, it does not mean that I do value to this group. Or
maybe i don't!!!!!!!!
HMMMMM!!
