I can't see how to make a new Style a default for future use.

For my Normal style, I have to re-modify it to my preferences each time I start a new document

Thanks

Roman

Roman,

When making your changes do you check the box "add to
template?"

Just create a document from Normal.dot (Use the Blank page on the standard
tool bar to create a blank document).

From Format > Styles and Formatting... Select the Normal style, make the
changes you want and before leaving the dialogue, check the "Save to
template" option.
If the only changes you want to make are font attributes, you do not need to
go to the style dialogue. Select a Normal style paragraph, from Format >
Font.... make the changes you want and then click on the "Default..." button
on the dialog box.
