A Problem with dhcp..

Hello
Recently I tried to install a game on XP. The game worked fine on Windows 98 but will not run on XP. Also, the game seems to either have altered some settings or deleted some files because now, every time I start my computer there's this long delay and I have found this error message. NOTE, Since the error message contains my IP address, I have altered it. Where ever my IP address was I put in (-). If anyone can tell me how to fix this, I would be grateful. Here is the error message
The IP address lease --.---.--.-- for the Network Card with network address 0040CA4C773E has been
denied by the DHCP server --.---.--.--- (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).
&#x000a

Please note the 2 IP numbers were different, in case that might matter. Obviously, I can still get on the Internet, and there seems to be no other problems, other than the delay when starting the computer

A couple of things. If you are having problems running
software on XP that used to run under 98, right-click on
the icon that you use to run the program, and select
Properties. Go to the Compatibility tab, and tell XP to
run the program under Windows 98 emulation. Select any
of the other options on that tab that you may need--but
don't select any that you aren't sure you need.

If you could include IP configuration information about
your system, it would help, even if you change the IP
addresses (or just the last two octets of the IP
address). Do an "ipconfig /all > c:\ipconfig.txt" and
let us know what it says.

What I *suspect* is that the program added a new network
connection of some type to your network configuration.
Since you can access the Internet, obviously your primary
NIC is working OK. What may be happening is that any
secondary NIC/network device/Dial-up connection/who knows
what is generating the DHCP errors you are seeing.
Without the full "ipconfig" info, it is really hard to
say.

Also, if you could forward the respective events from the
Event Logs, it would help. Right-click on My Computer,
select Manage, expand Event Logs, and check the System
and Application logs for entries that pertain to these
errors, and forward that information.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Jack

Below is the IP config stuff. I have tried the release/renew stuff, and
really don't know how to change my IP address myself. I really appreciate
your efforts however. There is a few other things that I have noticed that
would confirm your suspicions.

1. My printer has a port which allows me to plug in media cards. That is
highlighted in the Device Manager under My Computer with a yellow "!". I
have tried more than once to uninstall/reinstall without success.

2. My printer isn't printing correctly, nor is the ink level detection
system working properly.

Thank you again for your efforts. I was thinking; is there a way to just
clear out all the networks, and perhaps reset everything new?

By the way, I have reviewed the logs as you asked but I really didn't see
anything that corresponded to dhcp. But then again, I didn't know what I
was looking for...

Use System Restore to go back in time to before you installed the
game.
