hi...
i have what you can call a complicated problem , im running windows XP
professional service pack 1 , and recently i had to switch the ACPI off and
depend on standard pc because i had to Reassign the IRQ values so the network
card would work properly.anyway after i did that three problems occured 1-the
automatic system shutdown feature doesnt work. 2- there's an Unidentified
Device which windows cant identify and thus cant install a driver for. &
3-each time i try to insert a floppy disk in the drive this message appears
"A: is not accesible The Request Could Not Be Performed Because of an An
I/O Device Error.

Please if anyone knows anything about it reply. and thanks in advance.

Enigma,
As my HP BIOS was not totally ACPI compliant, I had to do the F7 at
install setup as well. I had the same identical problems as you. I found in
System Information a listing in problem devices: NT Apm/Legacy Interface node
disabled. In Device manager this appeared fine, so I uninstalled it and
rebooted..it was found and installed properly. Windows can now shut down the
computer. Immediately after, I was able to open a Word document from the
floppy, but when I tried another I was back to the I/O error. Seems to be
occasional, not constant. I did find a site to download and burn a bootable
CD just in case. Microsoft is stumped. HP has been useless. What is the make
and model of your computer?
