Malvem

I follow the steps of creating a bootable CD on MSDN web.
I create a El Torito CD and boot from CD-ROM sucessful.
But the system prompts several messages then auto-reboot.
The message are following:

for the file E:.The data has been lost. |
This error may be caused by a failure of |

Just few questions.

Did you checked EWF if it is working before making CD?
Also what is E: you should use C:.

You can find more info by reading previous posts: (watch on the line wrap
this should be one line)

First Thx for response my issus!
I checked the EWF state. It worked well.
I did't know what's the problem.
I post my FBAlog file as following.
Hope someone could solve my problem or give some key point! THX
lots....

Malvem,
3:46:31 AM - Found 1 Hard Disks.

Only 1 here? Do you have a CD-ROM in the target? Also, insert the Eltorito
CD in it.
3:46:31 AM - Searching for El Torito disk.

3:46:32 AM - Disk0 signature = 0x4B718273.

In case you had a Cd in the CD-ROM, here you would also see something like
"Disk1 signature = 0x4F544C45" (if you haven't change the default Eltorito
signature).

Also, it would help if you could show us the exact steps you did to create
the Eltorito CD.
And as Slobodan mention, read as many posts as you can in this NG regarding
Eltorito issues. It will help you to understand what's missing.

Hi Malvem,

You must have El-torito CD in drive while you perform FBA on HDD.

Also El-torito driver component must be present.

EWF beside
3:46:32 AM - Disk0 signature = 0x4B718273.
should see Disk1 with 'ELTO' signature in hex oh course.

Regards,
Slobodan

I undo this step!! I tried creating El Torito CD again.
Of course i did the lost step. Now it work sucessfully!! :)
Thx dear Slobodan very much........
I have two questions now. would you answer me??
1. Why i should put the pre-FBA CD in drive? for what?
2. Should the partitation of disk be FAT16 format? Why?

Regards, Malvem

Hi Malvem,
1. Why i should put the pre-FBA CD in drive? for what?
You can use one dummy El-torito CD for all future purposes.
El-torito driver needs this CD present during the boot so PnP will pick up
DiskID and partition size also it used this for assigning volume letter to
certain CD partition.
2. Should the partitation of disk be FAT16 format? Why?

I'm not aware of such limitation, although I would not use NTFS since it is
much chattier that FAT and will make heavier load on EWF RAM.

Slobodan

Hi Slobodan
Thx I see now.
But a senior engineer told me that he needn't do this step before.
Did anything update?

Valid El-torito CD must be present during the FBA PnP phase. Always had to
be present and still this limitation remains.
