A Nicer cmd shell?

Is there any tool that opens up a nicer cmd shell then us running cmd?

Something that looks more like a terminal emulator, but lets me run DOS
commands...I'm finding it hard to work with cmd when doing java
compilation, for example, or trying to see the output of certain line
commands.
