We are still a number of years from the next release fo Windows.

The primary differences between OEM and Retail are
OEM may only be installed to a bare hard disk
OEM do not get any support from Microsoft - you get it from the OEM
OEM may not be moved to another machine as it is tied to the first machine
it is installed to (even if that machine dies)

Welcome back, Mike. :o)

He's not been anywhere (well he went home, but he's been back a while). The
b*****d isn't replying to my emails though! <eg>.

that talked about the new OS code named "Longhorn" which is currently in
development.

Ouch! I don't think this note will help much either. :o(

No problem (all) - I did have what I suppose passes for a brief 5 days
holiday and I am currently snowed under in a few short term but "important"
projects - so my post rate (all done in my own time) has slackened off a
little.
I will redouble my efforts !!

It would be nice if MS could see it's way clear to give us a replacement copy of
XP with all known secutity loopholes plugged...the list of 'critical updates' is getting
to be a bit large! It's not like they can't afford it or anything, right?
