A Little TOO much Security on Outlook Express

I recently purchased a new CPU which had Windows XP Home
Edition. When I started receiving my email, I noticed
that any message that had an attachment also had a message
that the attachment had been removed for security
reasons. I have a good virus protection system in place,
but these mattachments are being removed by the Outlook
Express or by the XP. We breed dogs as a hobby and often
get photos sent to us showing the puppies' progress or
something cute that they are doing. These photos are very
important to us personally, but none are getting through
to us. HOW DO I RESET THE OUTLOOK EXPRESS OR THE XP TO
ALLOW THE ATTACHMENTS TO COME THROUGH TO US SO THAT MY
VIRUS PROTECTION CAN EXAMINE THEM AND MAKE THIS DECISION?
Please note that I am NOT very literate when it comes to a
computer, so please keep the answers simple... Thanks in
advance for any assistance.

In Outlook Express go to Tools, Options, Security. You'll find the
attachments setting there.

As a start, look under Tools/Options/Security. Make sure the box is not
checked that says something like, "Do not allow attachments to be saved
or opened..."

Good luck.

Thanks Jack--

It just took knowing where to look.... Working like a
champ now. Thanks for the info!

Greetings --

Outlook Express' default security settings are simply trying to
protect you. OE has no way of telling whether an attachment actually
contains a virus or not, so it temporarily blocks any of those file
types that could potentially contain a virus. In Outlook Express,
Tools > Options > Security, uncheck the "Do not allow attachments to
be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" option, assuming
you trust the source, of course. The wiser course of action, however,
would be to modify your list of unsafe files, as outlined in the KB
articles below:
