a hyperlink is not plain text

I have my Outlook 2003 set up to display email in plain text, yet URLs show
up as hyperlinks.

Often I will select all or part of a URL in an email to copy and paste.
Although I can still do this, the pointed finger pointer instead of text
select pointer goes against the normal heuristics of Windows.

I find myself turning off most of the autoformatting features in Office,
control-freak. I guess I'm still smarter than a machine, for now.

Only because Outlook is being nice you you and making active whatever it
thinks is a URL. There is no real link embedded in the message. I wish
there were a way to turn this feature off.

I don't know of any email client that does not do that.
