A "Documents and Settings" user folder opens each time Windows XP Home starts. How do I prevent this?

NB: This problem can be caused by a Trojan virus.

To Stop Windows Explorer from opening My Documents: Check your settings here:
Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

In the right pane under Userinit - Change the key that reads:
C:\Windows\System32\Userinit.exe,C:\Windows\System32\Userinit.exe
To:
C:\Windows\System32\Userinit.exe,

And also here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows.
In the right pane, check your settings under Load.

Note you can save the registry key first by:
On the File menu, click Export.
In the File name box, type SaveKey, and then click Save.
Or create a system restore point prior to editing.
Note: If the registry key is not there, you can simply create one by going edit

I have the same problem My documents up on start up and none of these suggestions works

Hi Doc,

Look for the guilty folder in the C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up and
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up
folders,

If something opens at start up. check these registry keys:

Go to Regedit and check these locations and see if the name of the
folder is in there and if it is delete it

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices

Good luck
