1607: Unable to Install InstallShield Scripting Runtime.

Although this seems like it's the issue, I did not do any updating. The
only thing I changed about my system was a defrag. When I defragged, I
created errors on my hard drive.

I have lost music, pictures, and it would seem, iTunes, and some other
applications. I am getting this error on an attempt to re-install iTunes.
Yes, that's re-install. I've tried the same installer I used, and I've tried
a brand new installer. The same runtime error occurs.

I have updated my Windows Installer to 3.1 since this issue began, and I'm
running SP1.

The other error I'm getting is on a cyclic redundancy check. This is how
I've lost most of the files it would seem (and parts of files).

I blame defragmenter for this, but I really don't know how to fix it. I
tried a system restore, but that doesn't replace the placement of my files.
I would think that some of these files have been moved incorrectly by defrag.

My real issue, is I need to be able to install things again. I can deal
with the loss of pictures and music. Keep in mind that I have ALWAYS been
able to install anything I've wanted and HAD iTunes installed before this
mess.

Thanks for any help.

It's possible your hard drive is failing. First, backup your data off your
hard drive as quickly as possible assuming this error doesn't prevent that.
Second, go to the hard drive manufacturer's website, download their
diagnostic tools and make note of their instructions for creating the
diagnostic boot disk and running their diagnostic. Then, run boot from the
floppy you create per their instructions and run the diagnostic.

This will run a thorough test of your hard drive should alert you if it is
failing.

Thanks to you all for your help. Hopefully one of these is the
answer...except my HD failing. I've already backed up as much as I can, but
I continue to get those cyclic errors on some of my files.

Will post again with whether it is fixed/not fixed.

Thanks again,
