I have Excel files created in Excel 2002 - and I have to convert them to
Excel 97 - a piece of cake - IF I HAD Excel 2002 available to me.

But I only have Excel 97. Does anyone have a conversion tool that
would work for this - or know of a web address I can download one
from.

Cheers to one and all

Dave

Hi Dave

Excel 97-2003 use the same file format
You can open a file in 97-2003.
Only if you use new things that are not in 97 you have a problem

What is the problem?

That's what confused me too - only when I tried to open these files it
said that the file was likely corrupt and could not be opened.

So I have since hopped into my car and gone home (having remembered
that I am not quite as archaic as Office 97 at home) and I opened the
files and did "Save as -> Excel 97". Brought them back into work and
opened them up fine this time. There is nothing complicated in them.
I just don't get it - Excel being wierd.

It's all sorted now anyway - I sent an instruction sheet to the guy who
gave them to me explaining that he would have to save it in an old
format and how. So thanks for your help anyway.

Cheers

Dave

I'm having maybe the same problem. I was given a file in "Excel" format, but when I open it at home, where I have Excel 97, or at work, where I have Excel 2000, I get the same thing: four rows of gobbledygook. The first and second rows, fwiw, are all ö (there's hundreds of 'em). The spreadsheet is supposed to contain a table of names, addresses, phone numbers, etc
I'm guessing that the file is in Excel 2002 or later. Is there any downloadable converter
Thanks
tom
