I am trying to upgrade from W98 to XP. The upgrade advisor
blue screens part way through its analysis of the system.
It always happens when the progress has reached system
components and specifically "DVD Movie Player". I don't
know if the problem is with that component or what ever is
next in line! The error message is 0028:00000009.

I can get the advisor to run to completion in safe mode
without major issue. Not sure how to install in safe mode
as the CD drive is not available. Any suggestions?

If DVD Movie Player is a program just remove it. Then run Upgrade Advisor
again.

You can always reinstall it after XP is installed.

I have the same problem. I happens afte the program scan and the status
indicator says "Preparing system files..."

I am having the same problem. I uninstalling the DVD
Movie Player. It did not help. I still get the same blue
screen of death at the same point.

Ok, I gave up and did a clean install with no problems at
all. I used the Files and Settings Transfer wizard before
starting and this kept all my emails and accounts etc..
intact. I've got to re-install some applications but at
least I'm clean start. Just make sure you think long and
hard about any files you will need in future and copy
them to CD or some where

Specifically I created a W98 boot disk, started the
machine from the boot disk and formatted the C: drive.
Then I booted from the XP disk and followed its
instructions.

Good luck
