ok...

i have an xp computer, my family has a windows 98 2nd edition, and w
have been trying to network them for a few weeks, but have had no luck

i have tried the network wizard, but it didn't work, and i wa
eventually told not to. and i have tried a few tutorials which jus
make you change things in your network setup. but again it didn'
work.

could anyone offer a quick rundown on what i need to set up a networ
and run the 95 machine as the master computer?

it's mainly for file sharing but it i could run the 95 as the maste
and share an internet connection it would be a bonus.

thanks in adavance for any help any can offer.

Give us some specific information about what you have done & how you are
attaching the systems together.

W95 does not support ICS. ICS, the software routing component, began
shipping with W98SE. While you could upgrade your W95 PC to W98SE, it
probably makes more sense to buy a router -- particularly if you get to
the 'net via DSL or cable, since hardware routing is more reliable
than software routing and offers inbound firewalling.

i'm not sure what sort of info you are after but i'll try..

i got a little hub, just a small 4 port hub. and did a tutorial on th
internet - on the XP computer i switch on in the LAN connectio
properties the following.
-internet protocol (TCP/IP)
-QoS Packet scheduler
-File and printer sharing for microsoft Networks
-Client for microsoft networks

then did the same on the windows 98 SE computer

i cant think of much else to add, let me know what you need to know an
i'll tell you.

thanks again
