I just received a Maxtor 250gb disk drive installed inside a Vantec USB 2.0
enclosure but am unable to access it from one of my machines, an HP Pavilion
753n. I can access the driver perfectly from a Dell D800 laptop so I take it
that the drive/enclsoure is working properly.

The environment includes WinXP PRo SP2, Zonealarm latest, Norton AV 2004
latest, -- Im wondering if the USB ports are locked down or alternately if
the USB drivers need to be reinstalled after i installed SP2. Im using the
machien as admin so i assume permissions are not an issue.

Any ideas what could be going wrong?

When you say that you can not access the drive, I assume that you mean that
it has not drive letter in windows explorer? If so, then try the disk
managment console. If that can see the drive, then the low-level stuff is
OK and perhaps all you need to do is assign a drive letter.

Also, for a disk that large, have you enabled 48-bit LBA?
