Can anyone tell me how to modify 802.1x settings on XP
Pro wired ethernet NICs across an enterprise given a W2K
server environment?

XP Pro provides an 802.1x authentication tab for "wired"
ethernet NICs. I am trying to find a way to change these
settings on workstations across the enterprise. The
latest group policy extension in 2003 server for 802.1x
wireless configuration has an authentication settings tab
but it has no effect on the workstations presumably
because it requires a wireless NIC. This is
disappointing because 802.1x applies to ethernet as well.
In fact it was designed for it. Is there a solution here
for W2K or W2K3?

Excerpt:
Port Access Control provides an optional extension to the functionality of a
System (6.1) that offers a means of preventing unauthorized access by
Supplicants (3.1.5) to the services offered by that System. For example, if
the System concerned is a MAC Bridge, control over access to the Bridge and
the LAN to which it is connected can be desirable in order to restrict
access to publicly accessible Bridge Ports, or within an organization, to
restrict access to a departmental LAN to members of that department.

Specific examples regarding RADIUS clients (and usage) are discussed in the
"Get 802" document.

G.Beat, thank you for the information. My issue is not with
understanding 802.1x as we are ready for deployment, but how to ease
the burden of client side settings for wired port authentication.

Any help is much appreciated, thank you in advance.
